3D Beef Lesson Plans: Engaging, hands-on learning for every grade level
These free lesson plans use a 3D beef cuts model to bring agriculture and food science to life. With activities tailored for elementary through high school, students explore where beef comes from, learn key cuts, and connect their knowledge to real-world cooking, nutrition, and marketing. Each lesson is flexible, fun, and ready to use - with or without the physical model.
Build-A-Steer
Level: Elementary School
Students will work together to assemble a 3-D model of a beef (steer), putting the pieces in the correct place as they learn where different cuts come from.
Race to the Cuts
Level: Middle School
Students will work in teams to race against the clock, labeling each beef cut and placing it in the correct location on the steer. The team that is both fastest and most accurate wins!
Cut vs. Cut
Level: High School
Students explore how beef cuts are marketed and work in teams to develop a strategy for their assigned cut. Teams then compete to create the most persuasive pitch and convince others why their cut deserves the spotlight.
Model Creation
Level: High School Agriculture Science
Students will learn beef anatomy by identifying and labeling major primal and subprimals. Then, they’ll put their knowledge to work by creating a 3-D beef model using physical materials.
