2,000 runners take to the streets in Springfield, Missouri for Marathon Weekend. 

Typically, Marathon Weekend marks the beginning of the end of race season here, but this year felt a bit different. For many, this was the first in person race they had been able to run all year. You could feel the buzz and the excitement! 

 While precautions were in place, MBIC still had many opportunities to reach runners from across Missouri and beyond who attend this event. Whether they were running the Conservation Marathon, the Cohick Half Marathon, News-Leader 5K or Conservation Marathon Relay we had the chance to talk with them about beef’s nutrition and utilizing the 10 essential nutrients found in beef for fueling up before or after the race during the Expo on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, post-race, we cheered on our Missouri Team Beef members as well as Arkansas and Kansas Team Beef members from the finish line and handed out 500 beef sticks to those looking for a high-quality, protein packed snack to refuel after their run. 

Bass Pro Fitness Series Partnership 

 The Missouri Beef Industry Council has a long-standing partnership with the Bass Pro Fitness Series in Springfield, Missouri. Not only does MBIC sponsor the Bass Pro Shops Fitness Series Marathon Weekend as a Gold Sponsor, but also the Recycle Run, Training Night/Happy Hour, Run the Rock 6 Miler at Top of the Rock, Run Across Springfield OneSolePurpose Run, Run Across Springfield Panther Run, Tour de Bass Cycling Events, Training Run with 37 North Expeditions, Rock4Kids Zombie Run, last leg of the Run Springfield Challenge, Dogwood Canyon Trail Runs, Back2Back Challenge, and the final Run Across Missouri. 

The Fitness Series sets out every year to address three main ideas that aim to incorporate beef into the goals of the events throughout the year: 

  1.  Encourage overall healthy nutrition to ensure that runners and walkers are eating for energy and recovery. Showcasing the nutrition of beef products and educating participants on the most nutritionally dense beef options allows us to serve our team members well. Highlighting the many ways participants and brand ambassadors utilize beef in their diets helps us relate to others who may be curious about food prepping, recipes, storage, snack options and how to incorporate more beef in their routine. 
  2.  Promote family health/wellbeing by focusing on mealtime as a family. Providing access to and highlighting delicious, easy and affordable meals enhances the process of making meals and sharing time as a family. Encourage families to enjoy the benefits of beef together through shopping, meal planning and selecting recipes that are new, fun and protein packed. Research demonstrates the value of family time in reducing depression, alcohol/other drug use and behavioral issues in children. 
  3.  Support a healthy lifestyle across the lifespan. We address all aspects of health and wellbeing with our participants and using Missouri Beef Industry Council resources allows us to make a lasting impact on the lives of our family- our participants become part of who we are and the connections we make with them are deeper than just a once a year visit to run, bike or walk with us.
